The Red Cross Movement took roots in this country in 1948. In 1957, the Society was established as the Federation of Malaya Red Cross Society and with the formation of Malaysia in 1963, the Malaysian Red Cross Society was in-corporated by Act of Parliament. In 1975, a change of name and symbol took place and the Society is known as the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.

Today, the Red Crescent symbol is by far the most recognised among all the voluntary organisations. Perhaps it is the most influential voluntary organisation in this country. this is due to the fact that the Movement is built on a clear meaningful idea with powerful universal appeal - the concept of alleviating suffering and saving lives, regardless of race, colour or creed. This purposeful concept is driven by highly efficient support system and implemented by people who are motivated, dedicated and professional.
