KUCHING - The 10th Sarawak Inter-Graduates Games 1998 was officially closed on 2nd November, 1998. The United States Graduates Association (USGA), this year's main organiser, has successfully defended the overall championship the they have won for the last two years, and get to keep the 3 years YB George Chan Challange Throphy. Five times champion Sarawak Australian Graduates Association (SAGA) and the Sarawak Taiwanese Graduates Association (STGA) finished joint second overall.
The Annual Sarawak Inter-Graduates Games was started in 1989, and since then SAGA has emerged as the champion in 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, and 1995, but came up short of retaining the challange throphy. The other past champion were Tunku Abdul Rahman Alumni (S) Sarawak Association (TARCASA) and the Sarawak United Kingdom Graduates Association (UKGA).
USGA started its domination on the games two years ago, and became the first team to complete the tri-peat, and get to keep the 3 years challange throphy.
The last event of this years games was basketball, organised by STGA. After five days of intense competition, TARCASA came up top after winnng two hard faught matches against the two strong contenders, USGA and STGA. USGA beat STGA in the last match of the competition to finish runner-up, while STGA has to content with 2nd runner-up after losing narrowly by one point to TARCASA.
