1. Animal Care Attendant

Primary Function: Under the direct supervision of the Shelter/Pound Sub-Committee Members, cares for the animals in the care and custody and maintain The Sarawak SPCA's facility.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

•  Provides food and water for domestic animals at the Shelter.
  
•  Cleans and disinfects cages, dog runs, floors, bowls, litter pans and other facility supplies.
  
•  Impounds and releases animals.
  
•  May assist in euthanasia of animals.
  
•  Creating and monitoring soft slips kept at the front of cages and dog runs.
  
•  Observes animals for signs of illness or injury and reports these to Veterinary Clinic Division.
  
•  Walk and/or socialize animals in agency's care.
  
•  Maintains paperwork and assists in the processing of animals by screening incoming and adoptable animals.
  
•  Assists the public with inquiries pertaining to animal adoptions and other general information.
  
•  Other duties as assigned.

Job Related & Essential Qualifications:

•  Experience working with animals in a sheltering or commercial environment (is desirable).
  
•  Must be able to work comfortably and safely with all types of animals.
  
•  Ability to work well and communicate effectively with the public, fellow employees and volunteers.
  
•  Ability to work efficiently under pressure and show maturity and good judgement.
  
•  Pass Form Five Secondary School (minimum Grade 3).
  

Knowledge of (is desirable):

•  Various breeds of dogs, cats and other domestic animals.
  
•  Various kinds of animal behavior.
  
•  Basic domestic animal care and safe, humane animal handling.
  

Working Conditions:

Dealing with possible unruly, vicious and dangerous animals and impounding the same safely and humanely.

Dealing with possible hostile or overly emotional public.

Ability to handle heavy and fast-paced workload; strenuous physical activity.

Possible exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.

Must be willing to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays and standby.

The noise level in performing this job varies depending on the task being performed.

Salary Range: RM500.00 per month
This is a full-time non-exempt position with benefits.
