In our plenty, there are people who still live in poverty and sufferings. But
on reflection I am encouraged to note that we've great hearts. Many of us
have put into countless hours of voluntary services for our society. Our
volunteers have acted selflessly and through our acts and sacrifices we have
made a difference in the lives of the needs in our midst. Indeed I am proud
we still hold true to the vision as espoused by our beloved founder Henry Dunant.
Supporting and caring for the poor and needy is always at the heart of our activity.
It is heartening to note that Our Sunflower Daycare Center and Dialysis Center
continued to improve and expand our services and support to the society. I observed
that Miri society appreciate the contributions you have made and has been very
supportive of our mission.
To be a volunteer was to be selfless, to take on additional responsibilities without
compensation. Indeed there could be no reward, not even recognition for volunteerism.
At least not in this life. To all our volunteers who work tirelessly and selflessly I
wish to put into record our society’s sincere appreciation for all that you have done.
Credit goes to Dr Mattu Dom and his dedicated committee members for maintaining 100%
voluntary blood donation again for the 17th times. Our youth also deserve
our praise for winning our state First Aid Competition. I wish to thanks the Emergency
Response team for their contribution in relief operations locally and overseas.
Disasters are unfortunate incidences, and therefore we must be well trained and ever
ready to be mobilized on short notices.
Community & health issues are becoming an important concern in our society.
However, thanks to the work of our Health & Community Services are complementing
the roles of the Health Ministry in creating a healthy society.
Fund raising is becoming very challenging today, but I am proud to report that through
the effort of the Flag Sale, Dance For Humanity, Jumble Sale, and Thrift Shop committee
we were able to finance a major portion of our expenditure.
Celebrating World Red Crescent & Red Cross Day, and organizing Annual Parade is an
important activity remind us of our origin and our mission. It also helps to strengthen
our solidarity, and provide us an opportunity to recognize our dedicated and deserving
members and supporters.
Regardless of our standing in society, each of us is called upon to responsibly act and
contribute towards the greater good of all. I am encouraged to note that we a strong and
energetic voluntary and community sector in our society. We owe our gratitude and
appreciation to the government, private sector, the general public, the media, benefactors
and well-wishers for their strong support given to us throughout the year. I take this
opportunity to express my appreciation to our past and present officials, volunteers and
staff members who have given us loyal support and total commitment. I want to thank all of
you for that, and I look forward to our partnership going from strength to strength in the
years to come.
Thank you.
