Blood Recruitment Programme

The Blood Donors Recruitment Programme began in1948 and is today’s limelight activity not for Sarawak Branch, but the whole of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society. The Branch had scored success in curbing the unethical selling of blood by unscrupulous persons. Another milestone in this Programme is the increase of blood donors drawn from the civilian population. Public education had been the main thrust towards yielding this sucess. The Society also provides recognition to the blood donors through a system of awards, besides the incentives given by the Ministry of Health. Innovative competitions for blood donors recruitment are also being organised to induce greater turn over of new blood donors. Health protection of our voluntary donors through our hepatitis immunisation programme had been initiated to sustain the existing panel of donors.

At the recent Presentation Ceremony of the TYT Blood Donors Challenge Trophy held at the Astana, the Armed Forces once again captured the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri’s outstanding Blood Donors Trophy and also the Commissioner of Police Trophy for recruiting the highest number of blood donors during 1996. The Youth Training and Development Training Centre retained the Datuk Patinggi Hajah Rosmiati’s Trophy in the Women’s Category.

Sarawak recorded a total of 26,285 pints of blood from among the 150,463 donors from all over the State. Of the total, 76% are regular blood donors and 78% are male.
