Junior
Chamber Kuching was first known as Sarawak Junior Chamber of Commerce
which was registered on 19th July, 1956. The President was
Mr. Sim Kheng Lung (later JCI Senator Datuk).
In
line with the developement in Jaycees movement, Sarawak Junior Chamber
of Commerce went through a few stages of changing her name. In 1970,
the name was changed to Kuching Junior Chamber. In 1972, it was
changed to Kuching Jaycees and in 1995, it was renamed Junior
Chamber Kuching.
The
beginning of Jaycees movement in Kuching or in Sarawak was the effort of
three young initiative businessmen namely, Mr. Sim Kheng Lung (later JCI
Senator Datuk), Mr. Francis Tan Eng Chong (later JCI Senator) and Mr. Jimmy
Sim Kheng Hua (later JCI Senator), who were invited by Singapore Jaycees
friends to attend the JCI Regional Conference in 1955 held in Singapore.
They
were deeply impressed with the works and activities of Jaycees that upon
their return to Kuching, a meeting was initiated by Mr. Sim Kheng Lung
where eight persons decided to form the youth training organisation and
called it Sarawak Junior Chamber of Commerce, now known as Junior Chamber
Kuching.
In
these 44 years, Junior Chamber Kuching had effectively played her role
as a youth training organisation. Many top politicians and government officers;
outstanding community leaders; leading professionals and entrepreneurs;
and scholars of today were at one stage or another active member of our
chapter. |
