While I can't exactly promise you a comprehensive look at what's been going on (that'll take *way* more e-mails), but I hope that this newsletter will at least introduce you to the workings of the 88th -- especially the people who run this madhouse. ;D This issue is a bit on the lean side, but in time I hope to include more fan works such as original jokes, poetry, short stories, or even ASCII art. You are cordially invited to send in your contributions, and who knows, maybe it'll be included. :) On that note, let's hit the trenches! Qapla'! Yasmin S. M. a.k.a. Garuda, 2nd Lieutenant, Communications and PR Officer <^><^><^><^><^><^><^> Latest News and Updates <^><^><^><^><^><^><^> 88th Firebirds Nesting Site: For those of you who haven't been to our site lately, the S:AaB page is now officially open. Don't miss our totally kewl entrance (kudos to Sparhawk), and the Wildcards "interview". Don't forget to sign our new guestbook. We're listed in the All Malaysian WebSphere! Granted, it's not as glamourous as our Yahoo listing, but still.... Firebirds Personnel Management: >From now on, our Morale and Recruiting Officer, Peregrine (Perry) will be handling all matters concerning new recruits and personnel. Actually, she's supposed to be responsible for all that, but as she was busy studying, Sparhawk has been shouldering all the duties. :) So if you have any problems concerning your rank or duty, please e-mail Perry. Callsigns: It has come to my attention that some of you still haven't submitted your callsigns. Please do so *immediately*. Remember that the callsign must be a bird name, so no calling yourself "Jaguar" or something like that. Send your choice to for approval. Firebirds Role-Playing Game: Albatross will be starting an e-mail RPG game based on S:AaB. To participate fill in the below form and send it to her: Player Name: Age: Country: Native Language: the rest of this is for you character Name: Race: Sex: Hair: Eye: Height: Weight: Age: Blood color: Hometown: Place of birth: Military background (if any): Education: Reason for joining the Corps: Maritial status: Children: [For more information, please e-mail her] Operation Famine Relief: I strongly encourage all of you to take part in Operation: Famine Relief . The starving North Korean children need our help, and it takes only RM0.48 to keep one child alive for a day. Asian Airwing: Now that our ranks have increased, we are seriously considering forming an Asian Airwing with our Singaporean neighbours, the 41st Wild Furies. The captain of the 41st mentioned that she knows willing S:AaB fans from other Asian countries who are willing to take part. But as of now, only the 88th and the 41st have something that resembles an organized squadron. Captain Ng of the Wild Furies has this to say: For those of us who's intending to be a part of the formation of the Airwing, and especially for our Malaysian liaisons, I'd wanted from the start to use the number 8 for the AirWing. Now that the Firebirds have called themselves the 88th, I'd like to hear what the rest of you propose. <^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^> Classified -- Hot Off the Wire <^><^><^><^><^><^><^><^> As forwarded by our Commanding Officer, Capt. Discussion Peregrine: So that was what its all about? The Navajo ,people from the sky the whole narration thing in the beginning about life from one source... Garuda: I love the narration. Very philosophical, and foreshadows things to come. "Foreshadowing is a valid literary technique" to quote jms. Peregrine: And it follows from the Native american idea of heavens following from the last ep ...that its still the same, the stars still giving man 'direction' ......Gosh , these people are so lyrical! Peregrine: ......the nice Pastie chiggy..?That were all from one source? Relatives of chiggy? We're all one happy family?Like the whole Mars thing! Cool . Garuda: So if we *are* from one source, then the Chigs aren't aliens at all, but long-lost cousins. That would explain why they kept tabs on us. They were waiting for the slow ones of the family to catch up. In a way, maybe being related could explain why they were so quick in declaring war on us -- the Chigs already warned their cousins, but the upstart humans wouldn't listen. Instead they infringed on the Chig's share of the family wealth. I think that if I was in the same situation, I would be angrier than if would if the infringer was a stranger. Peregrine: So true Garry. Its like those chinese dramas where the family fued goes hot and heavy for ol Dad's wealth. Garuda: Makes you wonder what the Chigs would've done had they managed to reach Earth, doesn't it? Would they annihilate us, or would they make a show of intimidating us and warn us off their planets, then leave? Peregrine: I guess thats how Aerotech knew about them already .I mean they knew they were there, and yet Aretech still pushed the Space program.Asking for it man. Cant blame the Chigs being scared of us,after all we kill our own indiscriminately, what more aliens?Further the idea that we create life artificially must be pretty scary for people who dont believe in an afterlife .They might see us as some kind of demonic people. Kingfisher: First they fed us the *crap* about us being descendents from monkeys and now they're trying to say that the Chigs and us are related in a way. Okay, I can buy that..please remind me that when the next time I try to grease a Chig, "Oh, say hello to Uncle Duhg'ji for me won't you cousin Gohi'ju" BLAM RAT TAT TAT TAT!(the sound of KF pulling the trigger of his Sub-automatic rifle) Peregrine: As for Cooperino , wowsers , the dark heart speech was really something .The CO must be so proud :D So sweet when Pastie held his hand .But all the poor dead babies.Kinda look like jelly beans though . Garuda: I hate to break it to you like this Perry, but that's more or less what human foetuses look like. Less jelly-like, but there's definitely a family resemblance there. Peregrine: True I guess.Still look like jelly babies.Foetuses are really unreal arent they, until they develop hands ,face and such . Kingfisher: So, Chigs lay their eggs in walls. I'm kinda confused . Is that female Chig the mother or just the guardian, and why is those two Chigs trying to kill her, (according to Cooper) Garuda: I really wonder why was the "nursery" placed in the middle of nowhere. And the Chig soldiers didn't even hesitate to open fire in it, even though they'll know the babies could be killed. My theory is that those babies are the children of the Chig resistance, the same ones who sent the message on Christmas. Peregrine: I thought that too! I was wondering if this Pastie guy was like a fringe group or something! Not with the Chiggy High Command.A civvie so to speak. No suicide pill after all. Good point !Wow you can almost see the wheel of fanfic turning now! I'd love to develope this idea. Garuda: I may be way off mark, but I don't see how the "guardian" could've sent a message to the Chig High Command about Operation Roundhammer quick enough so that they'll be able to come up with the whole peace charade and get to the Saratoga before the Wild Cards even arrive. Peregrine: My thoughts exactly ! ANd I didnt think he'd betray Cooper after all that handholding . And another thing...why should McQueen be at the interogation ?It should be the Master Sarge at arms .A Garibadli-esque person .A Worf .MAke no sense that second in line would risk being in the same room .Of course , I'm quibbling here--couldnt see a thing in that blue suit of his ! Peregrine: Its so weird that its gonna end and we all know what'll happen to Wangster and yet there's so much humor in it still .Esp when they all tried their hand at charades with Pastie .Esp Wang .The hanging man thing was too darn funnee . Garuda: Agreed there. Poor guy. Kingfisher: Soooo, *that* was what he was trying to say..I thought that was he was choking or something. Wang's gonna buy the farm right, at the next ep. Pity, oh well..casualty of war. Peregrine: I knew there had to be a reason for Cooper packing GI Geequed! Cinematic devices that we can see thru ! Reminds you of a McGuffin dont it Sparry ?! ;D Almost like putting a little red arrow saying watch the comic . Garuda: LOL. That was *so* darn obvious! Kingfisher: Hey, you know where I can get on of those GI Geequed comics. ;-) If they lay us down to rest..was *okay*. Ironic it seems that the the title depicts the same situation that is going to happen to the series. Ugly little sucker, aren't they. With a peculiar patriotic kinda attitude. Imagine, High Chig command demanding suicide for all Chig warriors. I don't think they have medics or military hospitals cause everyone's gonna die anyway, either being killed by us *RED STINKS* or having its head vaporised. Peregrine: Come on people, dig in ! [the discussion] Garuda: I'm digging, I'm digging! ;D Now this reminds me of the scene where the Chig buried the dead baby.... so sad. Peregrine: Aw...and when Cooper and the chigs shot up the cavern , I hoped he'd miss the eggs but he didnt . [Note: Sorry if you found the chat confusing.
