THOUGHTS, VERSES, QUOTES...
-contributions of Lt. Peregrine [Morale Officer]-

THOUGHT

"We all falter, but does it matter?"

"The difference between ignorant and educated people is that the latter know more facts. But that has nothing to do with whether they are stupid or intelligent. The difference between stupid and intelligent people--and this is true whether or not they are educated -- is that intelligent people can handle subtlety. They are not baffled by ambiguous or even contradictory situations--in fact, they expect them and are apt to be suspicious when things seem overly straightforward."

--Neal Stephenson, "The Diamond Age" (1995)--

"Then a woman said, Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow. And he answered: Your joy is your sorrow unmasked. And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears. And how else can it be? The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven? And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives? When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given your sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. Some of you, "Joy is greater than sorrow,' and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater.' But I say unto you, they are inseparable. Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that other is asleep upon your bed. Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy. Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced. When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall."

--Kahlil Gibbran--

VERSE

"You are the one-way glass that watches me standing in line at the bank
I always looked into your glasses like a cat looks into a fish tank
But all I could ever see was the specter of me reflected
I want a monument of the friendship that we never had, erected
I want it to take up lots of room
I want it to loom."

--Ani DiFranco, "Loom"--

"O Captain, my Captain ! Rise up and hear the bells
Rise up-for you the flag is flung-for you the bugle trills
For you bouquets and ribboned wreaths-for you the shores a-crowding
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;

Here Captain! Dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on that deck
You've fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchored safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
>From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won.

Exult O shores! and ring, O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead."

--Walt Whitman, Memories of President Lincoln--
April 14th marks the death of President Abraham Lincoln.

She said,
"You don't know, you don't know
About my dark life.
And you think you're a guest,
You're a tourist at best
Peering into the corners of my dark life."

--Elvis Costello, "My Dark Life"--

.....to all humyns remember to think....
about what you say
and will it sink
your heart into that quicksand of vengeance
the clawing and lashing
of disheartening impenitence
will tear at the skin
on the organ of touch
extended in offer
and retracted in such
a manner befitting the angry living
disjoining the soul
from the ecstasy of giving.

--Anon--

Don Quixote,
What do you say?
Are we shouting at windmills
Like you?

--Nik Kershaw, Don Quixote--

Now I'm not feeding off you, I will rearrange your scales
If I can, and I can
March into the ocean, march into the sea

I had a hat I put it down and it sunk, reached down,
yanked it up, slapped it on my head
All the people gather
Fly to carry each his burden
We are young despite the years we are concern
We are hope despite the times
All of the sudden, these days
Happy throngs, take this joy wherever, wherever....

I wish to meet each one of you
And you, me, you, if I can and I can
We have many things in common, name three (three, three, three)

I had a hat and it sunk, reached down,
yanked it up, slapped it on my head
All the people gather
Fly to carry each his burden
We are young despite the years we are concern
We are hope despite the times
All of the sudden, these days
Happy throngs, take this joy wherever, wherever you go.

Now I'm not feeding off you I will rearrange your scales
If I can and I can
I wish to eat each one of you and you, me, you

I had a hat and it sunk, reached down,
yanked it up, slapped it on my head
All the people gather
Fly to carry each his burden
We are young despite the years we are concern
We are hope despite the times
All of the sudden, these days
Happy throngs, take this joy wherever, wherever you...
carry each his burden
We are young despite the years we are concern
We are hope despite the times
All of the sudden, these days
Happy throngs, take this joy wherever, wherever you go.
(Take away the scattered bones of my meal)

--These Days by REM, "Life's Rich Pageant"--

QUOTE

"I don't care what your doing, so much as the stupid way you're doing it."

--Vincent Valentine, Kupo!--

"Well darkness has a hunger that's insatiable and lightness has a call that's hard to hear..."

--Emily Saliers--

"Permit yourself to flow and overflow. Allow for the rise in temperature and all the expansions and intensifications. Something is always born of excess."

--Anais Nin--

"Gender disparities exist in all countries. In 1995 there is no country in the world where men and women enjoy equality. Let us look at the world through women's eyes..."

--Boutrous Boutrous Ghali, former UN Sec-Gen on the Beijing Platform of Action--

"On my world, we have learned that an inauguration is simply a signal to the assassins that a new target has been set up on the firing range."

--Londo Mollari, Babylon 5: No Compromises--

FUNEE

The Laws of Anime:
#11 - Law of Inherent Combustability
Everything explodes. Everything.

First Corrallary - Anything that explodes bulges first.
Second Corrallary - Large cities are the most explosive substances known to human science. Tokyo in particular seems to be the most unstable of these cities, sometimes referred to as "The Matchstick City".

#12 - Law of Phlogistatic Emission
Nearly all things emit light from fatal wounds.

#13 - Law of Energetic Emission
There is always an energy build up (commonly referred to as an energy'bulge') before Mecha or space craft weapons fire.Because of the explosive qualities of weapons, it is believed that this is related to the Law of Inherent Combustability.

#14 - Law of Inverse Lethal Magnitude
The destructive potential of a weapon is inversely proportional to its size.

#15 - Law of Inexhaustability
No one *EVER* runs out of ammunition. That is of course unless they are cornered, out-numbered, out-classed, and unconscious.

"A person should not believe in an ism - he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon: 'I don't believe in Beatles - I just believe in me'. A good point there. Of course, he was the Walrus. I could be the Walrus - I'd still have to bum rides off of people."

--Ferris Bueller--

"Yikes! Aih-aih... only a maniac like him would reset his own bones!"

--Duo Maxwell, Gundam Wing--
